Within Cromford there are two sites that were originally cotton mills built by the entrepreneur Richard Arkwright at the end of the 18th century. Via Gellia Mill situated on the Via Gellia Road is a smaller construction that expanded in size and output later into the 19th century.

During 1983 work began to convert the site into a series of contained office and workshop units, a total of 50 were developed.
